Agriculture × Accommodation

FamLab Base

“Farm Stay,” which combines hands-on farming experiences with accommodation, is a program where you can get close to crops in nature and witness agricultural production up close. Through harvesting and farm work, you’ll learn the process from field to table and truly feel the rhythm of the seasons. On-site, you can connect directly with FamLab8 members—enjoy ingredients you can only taste there, and hear about cultivation techniques and local wisdom unique to the region.

As part of FamLab8’s “Attraction” initiatives, this project offers opportunities for people to personally relate to the value of agriculture. By carefully reconnecting visitors with Yatsushiro’s culture and its people—and creating a cycle that turns interest into ongoing support—we contribute to sharing the area’s charm and fostering local vibrancy.

POINT

Room

A relaxing Japanese home with a nostalgic Showa-era feel, where old charm and modern comfort coexist.

The main room is a spacious, connected two-room tatami suite with a wide veranda offering views of the garden. In the garden, lined with pines and stone lanterns, plum blossoms come into full bloom in early spring.

In the tatami-floored Japanese rooms—perfectly described as “grandma and grandpa’s house”—you can unwind at your own pace, whether sitting directly on the tatami or relaxing on the sofa. It’s easy to picture relatives gathering together and spending a lively New Year’s holiday—an atmosphere full of warmth and nostalgia.

A private retreat wrapped in the scent of igusa, with panoramic views of the countryside.

This standard room on the second floor is exclusively for overnight guests. Surrounded by the soothing scent of tatami made with 100% locally grown igusa, you can listen to the sounds of nature and fully relax—both body and mind. It’s an ideal choice for families or a stay with close friends.

Agriculture x Sports

Agri-Sports is a new kind of agricultural entertainment that turns the “eyes, skills, and strength” farmers have refined through daily work into sport-style competitions—designed to be enjoyed by watching and by taking part. Farmers and non-farmers alike, from kids to adults, can have fun using all five senses.

Refresh the image of agriculture and share its fun and depth with a wider audience.

Agri-Sports is a new kind of agricultural entertainment that turns the “eyes, skills, and strength” farmers have honed into sport-style competitions—designed to be enjoyed by watching and by participating.

By visualizing expert skills that are usually hard to notice—such as judging the best timing for harvest, performing farm tasks efficiently, and operating large agricultural machinery—it shifts the common perception of farming from “tough / plain” to “cool / full of depth.” With a format where everyone from kids to adults can take part under the same rules, Agri-Sports combines learning and entertainment and expands the reach of its message.

Farmers Compete in Skill! Aiming to Host a World Championship

Inspired by the “Skills Olympics,” which aims to improve young professionals’ technical abilities and foster, we aim to create an agriculture-focused version—hosting Agri-Sports national and world championships.

This will not only help farmers further develop their skills, but also encourage agricultural machinery manufacturers to advance their technologies in pursuit of victory—contributing to a higher overall technical level across the agricultural industry.

In addition, the emergence of professional Agri-Sports athletes will help expand the audience interested in agriculture.

Develop it as an event that brings connection and energy to the community.

We will create a place where competitors, spectators, producers, and businesses can come together—generating reasons to visit and encouraging people to explore the area.

At the venue, hands-on experience booths, direct sales, food & beverage, and merchandise will be integrated to expand the “related population” (people with an ongoing connection to the region) and stimulate local spending.

Through continued hosting and by expanding the competitions (e.g., from strawberries to rice), we aim to establish Agri-Sports as a seasonal event—enhancing the regional brand and creating greater vibrancy.

Seeing is believing!
